Mrs. Frances Bland Robertson, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010. Graveside services will be held in the Post Cemetery at Fort Benning at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2011. Mrs. Robertson, a daughter of the late Enoch Bland and Hattie Layfield Bland, was born in Columbus, Georgia on April 14, 1915, and moved to Americus as a toddler with her family. She received an Associates Degree from Georgia Southwestern College in the mid-1930s, and went back to school in her late 60s to complete her Bachelor’s and subsequent Master’s Degree from Columbus State College. She worked for the Bank of Commerce in Americus prior to World War II, and married Charles C. Robertson, Jr. of Americus in 1935. She traveled with her husband to his many Army postings including Japan and Germany. Survivors include her son, Charles C. Robertson, III of Atlanta; grandsons Matt Robertson and his wife Katie of McDonough, Georgia, Kenny Robertson of Hiram, Georgia, Jeff Robertson of Athens, Georgia; and great grandchildren Jaylin Allison and Caleb Robertson of McDonough and Emmett Robertson of Loganville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Charles C. Robertson, Jr. (Ret.); a son, Stephen Bland Robertson, and a sister, Mrs. H. O. (Marjorie) Jones.
