Mrs. Susan Morris O’Hern, 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, in the Lillian Carter Nursing facility in Plains. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with the Rev. Samuel Maves officiating. She will be interred, with no ceremony, in the cemetery at Andersonville National Historic site. Born September 30, 1919, in Americus, Mrs. O’Hern was a daughter of the late James Franklin Morris and Emma Aline Johnson Morris. She worked in the catalog sales department for Sears for a number of years. A devout Christian, she was a very active and long-time member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, it was the hope of Mrs. O’Hern that memorial contributions to honor her would be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Fred and Marion O’Hern and Jay O’Hern, all of Ocala, Florida, Richard and Kathy O’Hern of Americus, and Ray and Janice O’Hern of Santee, CA; two grandchildren, Patrick O’Hern of Pavo, GA, and Ivy O’Hern of Americus; two great grandchildren (sons of Patrick), PFC Corey O’Hern and his wife, Sarah, of Ft. Lewis, WA, and Jacob O’Hern of Pavo, GA; and a special friend, Ms. Dawn Myers of Americus. Her husband, Fred Hugh O’Hern, Sr., preceded her in death on January 18, 1990.
