JAMES L. FERGUSON – AMERICUS, GA AMERICUS, GA - James Lewis (Jimmie) Ferguson, 91, passed away on June 13, 2011 at his home on 408 Pecan Drive, Americus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Elliott Ferguson and Em Eldridge Ferguson, as well as by his brother, Eldridge Ferguson, and sister-in-law, Anna Adelle (Dellie) Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson graduated from Americus High School and Emory University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served in World War II in the Air Force, being stationed in England, and later worked for the United States Weather Bureau, serving in such various locals as Brazil, Panama and Newfoundland, then later in Pittsburg and Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Ferguson was a member of the 94th Bomb Group Memorial Association. He retired from the Weather Bureau, and after that made his home in Americus with his mother at the old Eldridge Home, an Americus landmark on South Lee Street, and then on Pecan Drive. Mr. Ferguson was a very active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on the Vienna Highway in Americus, and was vitally interested in many local and statewide organizations, including the Andersonville Guild, the Sumter Historic Trust and Historic Westville, having served on the Board of Trustees of the latter two organizations. Mr. Ferguson is survived by a number of cousins, and many good friends in the Americus area. A special friend over the years was Charles R. Crisp. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia, and burial on the Eldridge Family Lot in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, PO Box 6343, Americus, Georgia 31709. Hancock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
