Mrs. Iona Davis Lynes, 78, of Plains, passed away early Friday morning, July 8, 2011, at her residence. Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Plains Methodist Church. Rev. Lee Smith officiated. Graveside services were held at 3:00 PM Monday at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus. Rev. Don Wilhite officiated. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Phoebe Hospice of Americus & Sumter County, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709 or to Plains Methodist Church, P.O. Box 219, Plains, GA 31780. Friends may call at the family residence, 1821 U.S. Highway 280, Plains. Born January 11, 1933 in Millen, GA in Jenkins County, she was a daughter of the late Estes Napoleon Davis & Sara Beatrice Brown Davis Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband Billie Haywood Lynes, Sr. Mrs. Lynes was a retail sales person in the shoe department at Mansours and the Kiddie Shoppe in Columbus. She was a member of Plains Methodist Church, the Red Hat Club, the PALS Club, and the Stitch & Chat Club in Plains. Survivors include her daughter, Penny Smith & Charles of Plains; 2 sons, Billie Haywood Lynes, Jr. & Susan of Columbus and Mark Cameron Lynes & Diane Woodburn of Columbus; 2 sisters, Loraine Davis McCord of Eden, GA and Miriam Brown & Ronnie of Blichton, GA; 1 brother, James "Bubba" Davis & Helen of Sardis, GA; grandchildren: Jason A. Mitchell & Holly, Branden J. Smith, Justin H. Smith & Emily, Jessica L. Lynes, Glenna M. Lynes, Blake T. Lynes, Cristina C. Lynes, and Tripp Smith & Tracey; and great-grandchildren: Hannah & Riley Mitchell and Chase Smith; and a number of nieces & nephews.
