Freddie Mae Yeomans Tison

Mrs. Freddie Mae Yeomans Tison, 89, of Americus, passed away Tuesday morning, July 26, 2011, at Cordele Health & Rehab. Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 4:00 PM in Hancock Funeral Home Chapel, 427 S. Lee St., Americus. Rev. Lawton Sammons will officiate. Interment will be private. Born December 18, 1921 in Montgomery County, GA, she was a daughter of the late George Ollie Yeomans and Ruth Wrenn Yeomans. Mrs. Tison attended Lake Shore Baptist Church in Cordele. She and her late sister, Orris, were the first two meter maids in Americus. She was an emergency dispatcher at the Americus police department and at the Americus fire department for a number of years and worked at the health department for 10 years. Survivors include her children, Patsy Bowen of Americus and Donna Potts & her husband Larry of DeSoto; 1 sister, LaVerna McGuire & family of Leeds, AL; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Mrs. Tison was preceded in death by her husband Henry Grady Tison, Jr., her son Tommy Tison, and her daughter Dottie Cromer.
