Ms. Mary Moylan "Mamie" Crawford, 83, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 17, 2011 at her residence in Americus. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Americus with Monsignor Lawrence Lucree officiating. Pallbearers will include the following: Danny Crawford, Jay Lofton, Jason Thayer, John Pritchett, Bob Suber, & David Jones. Burial will follow at 5:00 PM in Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim, GA. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM. Born April 4, 1928 in Effingham County, GA, Ms. Crawford was the daughter of the late Harry Nathaniel Crawford and Mary Rhoda Mew Crawford. She was retired from the State of Georgia, Department of Juvenile Justice, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Altar Society. She was past chairman of the American Cancer Society in Americus. A graduate and honor student of Americus High School, Ms. Crawford was Miss AHS in 1945. She was a four-year graduate of Georgia Southwestern College, and was a Georgia Women's Golf Champion in 1953, 1955 & 1959 and a member of the Georgia Southwestern Athletic Hall of Fame for Golf. She participated in the Walk of Honor in front of the Rylander Theatre. Born April 4, 1928 in Effingham County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Harry Nathaniel Crawford and Mary Rhoda Mew Crawford. She is survived by two brothers, John W. Crawford of Columbus and Paul M. Crawford of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus, GA 31719.
