Mr. James Edward Smith, Jr. of Plains, GA passed away Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, NC. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus. Mr. Sammy Curry and Rev. Damon Fountain will officiate. A visitation will be held preceding the funeral, beginning at noon Wednesday at Hancock Funeral Home. Born July 15, 1961 in Panama City, FL, he was the son of the late James Edward Smith, Sr. and Hilda Wilkinson Smith. Mr. Smith was a truck driver for Perry Brothers Oil Company in Americus. He was a good family man who loved races, hot rods, and big trucks. He was a Volunteer Firefighter with the Sumter County Volunteer Fire Department. Members of the Sumter County Volunteer Fire Department have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Terri Jayne Buchanan Smith; 2 sons, Robert James Smith & his wife Lacy of Preston, and Christopher Lee Smith & his wife Kathryn of Plains; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherri & Richard Bullard; a father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.C. & Frances Buchanan; 3 grandchildren, Trenton Smith, A.J. Smith, & Shyann Smith; and 3 nephews.
