Annette Rowe

Mrs. Annette Suggs Rowe, currently of Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Americus, Georgia, passed away on September 14, 2011. Graveside services for Mrs. Rowe will be held on Sunday, September 18 at 3:00 PM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. A memorial service honoring Mrs. Rowe will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia. Visitation will be at noon in the First Baptist Church Parlor. Mrs. Rowe was born in Lee County, Georgia, the youngest child of the late Ruby McDowell Suggs and Joseph Emory Suggs, Sr. She was the widow of O. Z. Rowe, Jr. Mrs. Rowe had a long and varied career that began with the Central of Georgia Railroad in Americus and concluded when she retired from the State of Georgia Youth Services in 1986 after 17 years of service. During that time, Mrs. Rowe served as the Assistant Director of the Regional Youth Development Center in Gainesville, being the first woman to serve in this position. Mrs. Rowe was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville for many years and was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Tallulah Falls Study Club and the Friendship Sewing Club. Mrs. Rowe was preceded in death by her brothers, J. E. (Jessie Mae) Suggs, Jr. and Henry Grady (Betty) Suggs; her sisters, Elizabeth Suggs (Larry) Reagan and Christine Suggs (Lloyd) Pinson; and by her grandson, Richard Carl Houck. Loving survivors of Mrs. Rowe include her daughter Angela (John) Hewitt; two grandsons, Blaine Hewitt and Tyler (Elizabeth) Hewitt; three great granddaughters, Ansley Marie, Avery Patricia and Anna Elizabeth Hewitt; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ministry of Caring, First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Georgia.
