Mrs. Evelyn Horton Davis passed away peacefully Monday morning, October 10, 2011 at her residence in Americus. She was 92 years old. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of Americus. Rev. Jim Smith and Rev. Bill Dupree will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Americus. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street. Born January 20, 1919 in Americus, she was the daughter of Reese Herbert and Kathline Emmett Horton. A lifetime member of First United Methodist Church of Americus, she was a member of the Wesley Sunday School class and especially loved her church and church activities. Mrs. Davis was a retired first grade teacher and music teacher at Eastview Elementary School in Americus, and a longtime member of the Pilot Club of Americus and the Lions Club of Americus, where she served as Chaplain. She was also a former member of the Americus chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women's Literary Club, and the Retired Teachers Association. She loved playing the piano and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by two daughters: Kay Bice & her husband Galard of Sylvester and Dr. Nancy Ann Davis & her husband Larry of Albany; two sons: E. Wright Davis & his wife Cindy of Palm Harbor, FL and Horton Davis & his wife Brenda of Americus; a brother, Dr. Bennett Horton & his wife Evelyn of Knoxville TN; a sister-in-law: Anne Horton of Mobile, AL; 7 grandchildren: Calvin Parker & his wife Alicia, Doris McDonald & her husband Glenn, Vic Parker and his wife Melanie, Randall Davis & his wife Rachel, Lann Davis, Anthony Davis, and Ross Davis; 7 great-grandchildren: Bristol Parker, Peyton Parker, Abigail Parker, Alexa Kate Parker, Charlie Davis, Elijah Davis, and Sarah Davis; and several nieces & nephews. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Elmo Davis, in 1996. The family recommend memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church of Americus and Phoebe Sumter Hospice.
