Mr. Robert S. Perry, 88, 125 Lake Shore Drive, passed away at Perfect Care the 11th day of December, 2011, following several months of declining health. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Dec. 14, at First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Smith and the Rev. Bill Dupree will officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Ross Chambliss, Bill Shepherd, Donnie Roland, Mike Fennessy, Garland Mears, Cliff Pilcher and Ted McMillan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Epworth Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at their residence and also at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Born August 10, 1923, Mr. Perry was the son of the late Bernard C. Perry and Jodi F. Perry of Dawson. He was educated in Dawson Public Schools, Emory University and University of Georgia. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was one of the “Great Generation” and was inducted into the US Army in 1943 at the end of his junior year in college. He landed at Miline Bay, Papua, and New Guidea in early 1944. Served at Finschhafen in Papuan New Guinea, Hollandia and Biak Island in the Dutch East Indies, San Jose on Mindoro Island and Subic Bay in the northern Philippines, Zamboango and Ft. Pikit on Mindanao in the southern Philippines, and Onomichi on Honshu Island in Japan. Following his discharge from the service in 1946, he returned to the University of Georgia to complete his education. After passing the Bar Exam and CPA Exams he moved to Americus in 1951 and started his own accounting practice. At this time he was the only CPA in Americus. He was a charter member and treasurer of the Americus and Sumter County Payroll Development for 28 years. Mr. Perry was an active member of the Kiwanis Club until his retirement. Mr. Perry was a member of The First United Methodist Church and an active member of The Epworth Sunday School Class. He was formerly married to the late Carrie G. Perry who preceded him in death in 1988. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Lutrelle Guest Perry; step children Mr. and Mrs. Phil(Marilyn) Guest, and Beth Guest Wright of Americus; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Lee(Brooke) Guest, Mr. and Mrs. Burt(Mikki) Guest, Mr. and Mrs. Bo (Kerri) Ewing all of Americus and Chesley Ewing Belcher of Marietta and 7 great grandchildren. Cousins of Mr. Perry are Mr. and Mrs. William (Marilyn) Fletcher of Peachtree City, Mrs. Emma Fletcher McNeil and Mr. Harold Fletcher of Dawson, and Mrs. Mary Sue Fletcher Alston of Parrot.
