Dealva S. Howard

Mrs. Dealva S. Howard,98, passed away late Friday evening, February 17, 2012, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services are planned for Monday, February 20, 2012, at 2:00 in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Rev. H. C. Harvey will officiate. A visitation will be held the hour directly preceding the funeral, beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born August 19, 1913 in Quitman, GA, she was a daughter of the late Mack Parda Simmons and Virda Ruth Tyson Simmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mack Howard. Mrs. Howard was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church since 1932, where she was a member of the adult Sunday School class. She worked for 9 years in the dietery department at Sumter Regional Hospital and for 14 years in the dietery department at Georgia Southwestern College. At the time of her retirement from GSW in 1979, she was the assistant food service director. Survivors include two daughters: Peggy Joyce Howard Jordan of Marietta, GA and Gloria Ann Howard Turner of Clearwater, FL; two sons: Bill Mack Howard of Plains, GA and James Robert Howard of Ruskin, FL; one brother Millard Simmons of Plains, GA; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of one's choice. Hancock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
