Mrs. Virginia Williams of 304 Church St., Plains, GA, died on April 20, 2012 at her home at the age of 88 years old. Virginia was born in Marion County, Georgia, on a farm known as the "Rees Place" on November 25, 1923. She moved with her family to the Plains area in 1934. Her parents were Ernest W. and Ouida L. Murphy Harris of Plains. She graduated from Plains High School in 1941 and attended Georgia Southwestern College. She married G. Frank Williams, Sr. on January 14, 1943. Before her husband's death in 2008, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She was a member of Plains Baptist Church, a charter member of Stitch and Chat, Plains Preservation Trust and Plains Garden Club. She served as a Regent of the Council of Safety Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by three children and their spouses: George and Jan Williams, John and Cindy Williams of Plains, and Ginny and Marty Leopold of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren: Bill (Lauren) Callis, Tom Callis, Leigh Anne Williams, Jay Williams, Christie (Allen) Kehoe, and Jason (Tasha) Williams; two great-grandchildren: Kate Kehoe and Jack Callis. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Durham and her husband John of Albany; a brother-in-law, Henry Williams of Woodbine, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family requests that memorials be made to the Plains Baptist Church, P. O. Box 198, Plains, Georgia 31780 or to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, P. O. Box 1434, Americus, Georgia 31709. Grateful appreciation is expressed to Innovative Senior Solutions for the wonderful personal care for the last two months. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Plains Baptist Church in Plains with interment to follow in Lebanon Cemetery. The Rev. Don Wilson will officiate.
