William Raymond Shutters

Mr. William Raymond Shutters, 74, of Americus, passed away Thursday morning, May 31, 2012 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services with military honors are planned for 2:00 PM Monday, June 4, 2012 from the committal shelter at Andersonville National Cemetery. Chaplain Todd Wainman will officiate. A visitation will be held Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Born August 24, 1937 in Jackson County, Alabama, he was a son of the late James Gilbert Shutters and Louise Bradford Shutters. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Shutters was a retired street superintendent for the City of Americus. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was a jack of all trades and loved hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Jean Spradley Shutters of Americus; sons, Danny Curles of Cobb, Randy Curles & his wife Donna of Tifton,and Allen Shutters & his wife Rachel of Americus; daughters,Michelle Joiner & her husband Don of Oglethorpe and Liza Sabatka & her husband Rick of Chicago, IL; brother, Cecil Shutters & his wife Yvonne of Ellaville; sisters, Frances Harris of Americus, Bonnie Kendrick & her husband Clayton of Ellaville, Gladys Andrews & her husband Chuck of Albany, and Hazel Harbuck & her husband Billy of Americus; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and several nieces & nephews. Mr. Shutters was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Shutters, and by a grandson Shane Curles.
