Mildred Carlton Albritton

December 22, 1925 — June 28, 2012

Mrs. Mildred Starling Carlton Albritton, 86, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, passed away on Thursday morning, June 28, 2012, in Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment, without ceremony, will follow in the church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, and members of the Dorcas Sunday School class are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, and at other times at the home of Alicia and Wayne Achey, 106 Forestside Circle. A native of Thomaston, Mrs. Albritton was a daughter of the late John Howard Carlton and Matilda Cleora Starling Carlton. Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter Wade Albritton, on Nov. 21, 1997, and a daughter, Millie Jo Albritton on Nov. 16, 2011. During World War II, Mrs. Albritton worked at Bell Aircraft in Atlanta. Later she worked for several years at Manhattan Shirt Company, and for 25 years as a Human Resource Specialist at the Department of Family and Children's Services. She was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church as long as her health permitted, serving as a Sunday School teacher, director of the WMU, and in later years as a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class. Moncrief of Jackson, Ann A. and John Brown of Americus, and Alicia A. and Wayne Achey of Americus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter D. and Cheryl Albritton of Albany and John A. and Beckey Albritton of Albany; a sister, Josephine Parker of Thomaston; grandchildren, Jessica A. and Karl Sadler of Smyrna, Haley M. Albritton, Steve Willis, Michael and Christi Albritton, Christina A. and Ryan Davis, all of Albany; Amy Moncrief Baldwin and Corey Moncrief, both of Jackson, Kimberly C. and Lee Mimbs of Loganville, Brian and Melissa Clark of Murphysboro, TN, Leslie Kobs, Laurie and Tyler Denham, all of Americus, Leigha Stukes of Ellaville, Christopher and Ainsley Achey of Macon, and Carley Achey of Americus; 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
