Mrs. Cora Augustine LaPointe Banks, 80, passed away Friday afternoon, July 6, 2012, at her residence in Americus. A funeral mass is planned for Monday, July 9, 2012, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Father Clif Marquis will officiate. A visitation will be held Sunday evening, July 8, 2012, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM. Friends may call at other times at the family residence, 201 Wanda Way. A daughter of the late Leonard LaPointe & Alvine LaChance LaPointe, she was born January 7, 1932 in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada. Mrs. Banks was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church since 1964. She was a home maker, and had owned the Bowling Center in Americus. She was a secretary at Americus High School in the late 1970's & early 1980's, was a bailiff at the Sumter County Courthouse, and worked at the Middle Flint Day Treatment Center in the 1990's. Survivors include 2 sons, Larry Banks (Rhonda) of Americus and Leonard Banks (Diane) of Gray, GA; 2 daughters, Linda Hagins (Tommy) of Americus and Tammy Relyea (Robert) of Fayetteville, NC; 2 brothers, Paul LaPointe of St. Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada and Marc LaPointe of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada; 1 sister, Rachel Kirkland (Tom) of Mesquite, TX; daughter-in-law Elaine Banks; grandchildren: Zachary Hagins, Melissa Hagins, Meredith Owen (Clay), Travis Banks, Megan Relyea, Gavin Banks (Kim), Brandon Banks, Brian Mooney, Nicholas Banks (Becca), & Lindsey Harris (Brett); 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard W. Banks in 2003, and by 2 sons, Marc Banks in 1991 and Dennis Banks in 2005.
