Mr. Robert F. Ham, 90, passed away Thursday morning, August 16, 2012, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A funeral mass was held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Americus, with Father Bob Cushing officiating. Burial services, with military honors, are planned for Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Andersonville National Cemetery. Bob was born in Dubuque, Iowa in 1922. He graduated from Loras Academy. During World War II Bob served in the Army for three years. He was in the European theater and the Philippines. Before he went overseas, he spent several months stationed in Miami where he met Peggy. Following his military service he returned to Dubuque for a short period of time and then returned to Miami where he married Peggy in 1946. Bob and Peggy have three sons, Robert Wilson (Ruth Ann), William Anthony (Carol), and James Michael (Cindy). They have also been blessed with six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A second great-grandchild is on the way. Bob spent his working years in the optical business in Miami and Jacksonville. He was well known in the state of Florida and twice recognized as Optician of the Year. When Bob retired in 1985 he and Peggy moved to their retirement home in North Carolina where Bob enjoyed woodworking and playing lots of golf. The Hams also took great delight in traveling. For the last eight years, Bob and Peggy have resided at Magnolia Manor.
