Mrs. Marie “Ree” Avera Ewing, age 90, passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2012 at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. “Ree” was married to the late Charles K. “Prof” Ewing for 64 years. She was a resident of Americus from 1947 to 2003, when the couple moved to their summer home in Cape Cod, MA. Ree moved to Ellaville to be closer to her family in 2010 and celebrated her 90th birthday September 29, 2012. She attended the University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in dietetics. She was the dietitian at Americus Hospital, taught home economics at Georgia Southwestern College, taught 5th and 8th grades in Americus area schools, and worked as a counselor at Southland Academy. She also tutored during the summer months in West Dennis, MA. In later years, she volunteered at the Cape Cod Museum of the Shore. Survivors include her daughter, M’Lou Lee & husband John of Americus; her son, Bill Ewing & wife Bunny of Ellaville; six grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
