Mr. Marvin E. Tanner, 86, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 17, 2013, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services, with military honors, are planned for Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at 12:00 noon at the Committal Shelter at Andersonville National Cemetery with interment to directly follow. Rev. William Hall will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday preceding the funeral, from 10:00-11:30 AM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with a funeral procession following to Andersonville National Cemetery. Friends may call at other times at 269 Lakeshore Drive. Born February 16, 1926 in Vienna, GA, he was a son of the late John Lelus Tanner and Mary Elizabeth Hair Tanner. Mr. Tanner was retired from maintenance work with Procter and Gamble and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having achieved the rank of Corporal. Survivors include three sons, Wade Tanner (Teresa), Kenneth Tanner (Susie) and Ernest Tanner (Lisa), all of Americus; one daughter, Kay Tanner Hodge (Rainey) of Americus; two brothers, Bennie Tanner (Georgia) of Americus, and Bobby Tanner (Ira Jean) of Lawrenceville; one sister, Margie Austin of Americus; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
