Mr. Banks Brown, 77, of Plains, passed away early Wedensday morning, February 6, 2013, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 8, in the chapel at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. A committal service, with full military honors and Masonic graveside rites will follow at Smithville Cemetery, with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends between the hours of 4:00 & 7:00 PM Thursday, February 7, at Hancock Funeral Home, and at other times at the family residence, 272 Ellis Road in Plains. Born January 18, 1936 in Humphreys County, TN, he was a son of the late Sim Brown and Virgie Ovela Story Brown. Mr. Brown was a retired military mechanic, having served in the Air Force for 8 years, achieving the rank of Airman First Class, and in the Army for 18 years, achieving the rank of CW2. He was a member of Smithville United Methodist Church, and was a Master Mason, serving as Worshipful Master for 3 terms and Lodge Secretary for 6 terms. He was also a Shriner, a member of Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany, a Scottish Rite Mason, and held the 32nd Masonic degree. Survivors include his wife, Mary Brown of Plains; his children, Georgie O. Brown of Plains, Johnny B. Brown of Leesburg, and Kim S. Iacono (& her husband Mark) of Plains; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
