Mr. Joseph Talmadge Hester passed away unexpectedly at his home in Columbus on Wednesday evening, February 27, 2013. Funeral services with full military honors are planned for 2:00 PM on Friday, March 1, at the committal shelter at Andersonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends preceding the service on Friday, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 12:00 & 1:30 PM, with a funeral procession following to Andersonville. Born July 2, 1936 in Omega, GA, he was a son of the late Thomas J. Hester and Nancy Busbin Hester. He was a retired United States Army veteran, where he was an Administrative Specialist, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. Among the medals he received were the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki D. Hester of Montezuma; a brother, Clayton Hester of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren: Crisi Hester Hall, Mark Hall, Joey Jenkins, and Mandy Jenkins; and great-grandchildren: Austin Richards, Kyle Richards, Lee Richards, Seth Hall, and Sophie Jenkins. Mr. Hester was preceded in death by one sister and several brothers.
