Mrs. Dolores Marie Randolph Capitan passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013 at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, GA. A funeral mass will be held at noon on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Americus, with burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Father Martino Nguyen will officiate. A visitation, with a Rosary service, will be held Tuesday Evening, April 30, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Born April 14, 1933 in Hastings, Nebraska, she was a daughter of the late Emmett Randolph and Georgina Junker Randolph. She was the second of ten children. Mrs. Capitan became a Registered Nurse, having trained at St. Mary’s Hospital affiliated with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She worked as a nurse at the University of Minnesota Hospital while a full time student at the University and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. She worked as a nurse and in-service instructor at several hospitals Later she did graduate studies in journalism at West Virginia University and worked as a journalist for several city newspapers. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and had been active in garden club work, on both the local and state levels. She was a long time editor of Garden Gateways, a Georgia Garden Club publication. She travelled extensively worldwide with her husband and established many treasured friendships Survivors include her husband, Dr. William Capitan of St. Simons Island, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Rita Anne Spalding and Jeffrey Buerstatte of St. Simons Island, GA; son, Edwin Andrew Capitan of Atlanta; three sisters, Mary Pope of Overland Park, KS; Sister Michaela of Atchison, KS; and Rita Hunter & her husband Robert of Atchison, KS; four brothers, James Randolph and his wife Elizabeth of CO; Michael Randolph and his wife Patricia of White Bear Lake, MN; Edward Randolph of Grand Island, NE; and Pat Randolph and his wife Mary Jo of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Charles Spalding, William Spalding, Benedict Spalding, and Chancellor Buerstatte, all of St. Simons Island, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 332 S.
