Mr. Walter Braxton Mallard passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 11, 2013, at his home in Plains. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM Friday, June 14, 2013 from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Rev. Lee Smith will officiate. Interment, with full military honors, will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Plains. Those asked to serve as pallbearers are Michael Dominick, John Harty, Michael Mallard, John Parker, Boz Godwin, and Roy Young. Friends may call at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., on Thursday evening, June 13, 2013 between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM. Born February 14, 1933 in Ft. Benning, GA, he was a son of the late William F. Mallard and Mamie Hodge Mallard. Mr. Mallard was retired from the United States Army. He was a member of Plains First United Methodist Church and of the American Legion, and he loved to feed the birds. Survivors include his wife, Polly Mallard; 5 children, Walter, Bryan, Denise, Lisa and Karen; brother, Robert Mallard; special friends, John Parker, Cindy Baker, and John & Linda Harty; and several grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
