Mr. Gary Richard Lewis, age 67, passed away on Friday morning, November 8, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM Monday, November 11, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Reid Mathis will officiate. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 10, between the hours of 3:00 & 5:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home. Born September 22, 1946 in St. Augustine, FL, he was a son of the late Sidney James Lewis and Mary Leona Collins Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. He was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of the VFW. He had been a self-employed contractor and heavy equipment operator. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, MaryNell T. Lewis of Americus; daughter, Stephanie Richards of Americus; sons, Gary Lewis, Jr. "Bubba" and Kevin Michael Lewis, both of Americus; brother, Brian Keith Lewis of East Palatka, FL; sisters, Flossie Fields (Bob) of Palatka, FL, Alma Stone of Palatka, FL, and Judy Thompson (Skipper) of Okechobee, FL; grandchildren: Jacob Richards, Alexis Nixon, Amber Lewis, Kayden Poole, and Kacen Jase Lewis; great-grandchild, Cameron Richards; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Lewis (Faye), Obie Eugene Lewis, and Sidney James Lewis (Susie), by a brother-in-law, Jimmy Stone; and by a granddaughter, Hannah Richards.
