Lewis Emory Wilson

Mr. Lewis Emory Wilson, 98, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, January 22, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, at Rehoboth Baptist Church on Dawson Road. Rev. James Beckett, Rev. Greg Kirk and Rev. Rusty Mauldin will officiate. A private entombment will follow. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Rehoboth Baptist Church, preceding the funeral, from 1:30 until 2:30 PM. Born January 1, 1916 in Buena Vista, he was the son of the late James Luther Wilson and Bessie Helen Mitchell Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a general repair and acetylene welder, having worked for the City of Americus and Dorsey's Machine Shop. After World War II, he served as instructor for welding and joining for the Army at the Southerfield Airport which is now at South Georgia Technical College. When this program was discontinued, he worked for many years until he retired from Long's Machine Shop. After his retirement, he continued to work at his shop at home. He was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and a member of the Brotherhood of the Church. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #752. He met his wife, Lela Belle Turner, at Rehoboth. They married on September 5, 1940 and have shared over 73 years of marriage. Mr. Wilson has survived several bad accidents during his lifetime, but his strong faith in God, good doctors and nurses, and a caring wife have kept him keeping on until he was called home. Survivors include his wife, Lela Belle Turner Wilson; two daughters, Kim W. Mountjoy of Americus and Kerri Untch of Birmingham, AL; two granddaughters, Nally Nicole Mountjoy of Athens and Kristen Perry of Americus; step-grandchildren, Megan Nicole Montgomery of Great Lakes, Shane Untch of Eba, AL, and Jon Mountjoy of Atlanta; sisters-in-law & brother-in-law, Liz and Bill Turpin and Faye Knight, all of Americus; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, H.C. Turner, Jr., Lee Jack Turner, and Charles Knight.
