George Tharpe Deriso, Ii

Dr. George Tharpe Deriso, II, DVM, 75, of Leslie, passed away on Monday evening, March 10, at Four County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richland. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 15, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Bro. Troy Fripp officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers:  Alan Webb Schwartz, Jr., William Mims Deriso, Shawn Michael Pittman, Keith Christopher Pittman, Dan Harrison, and Leo Pouliot. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Leslie City Cemetery. A reception will immediately follow the burial, at Leslie United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends preceding the funeral service, beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday at Hancock Funeral Home. Born December 9, 1938 in Americus, he was a son of the late Henry Clark Deriso and Leola Perkins Deriso. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine. He owned and operated Bird Road Animal Hospital, which was the largest animal hospital in Dade County, FL for some time. He was a member of Leslie United Methodist Church and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Dr. Deriso served in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain. Survivors include one son, Dr. George T. "Trey" Deriso, III, MD (Shelly) of Atlanta; two daughters, Kathryn Deriso-Schwartz (Alan, Sr.) of Miami, FL and Leslie Ann Deriso of Atlanta; one brother, Dr. Henry Clark Deriso, Jr., MD (Natalie) of Savannah; grandchildren: Kathryn Alana Schwartz, Burgen Brinson Schwartz, Alan Webb Schwartz, Jr., Chandler Grey Schwartz, Kate Elizabeth Deriso, and Lane Ryan Deriso; special friend, Mattie L. "Pat" Satterfield of Americus; first cousin & beloved friend, Jeanette Perkins-Graves of Kingston, GA; one niece, Melinda Dean Deriso, and one nephew, William Mims Deriso. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus, GA 31719.
