Mr. Fredrick Donell "Square" Norton, 83, passed away early Thursday morning, March 20, at Palmyra Nursing Center in Albany.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 23, from the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Danny Loffredo will officiate. All members of the Americus Fire Dept. are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.Friends may call at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., on Saturday, March 22, between the hours of 5:00 & 7:00 PM.One of eleven children, Mr. Norton was born March 2, 1931 in Barbor County, AL, son of the late A.V. & Dorothy Norton.A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a firefighter for the City of Americus for 44 years, having served from 1952 until 1997 when he retired as Assistant Fire Chief. He was also a master barber at Bob's Barber Shop.Survivors include his children, Donnie Norton (Susan) of Albany, Rebecca Norton (Phillip) of Cedartown, & Beth Norton Bowden (John) of Americus; grandchildren: Eli Norton, James Bowden, Bud Norton, Marty Bowden, & Matthew Drake; great-grandchildren: Meaghan Norton, Gabe Norton, Nicole Norton, Riley Norton, Samantha Bowden, Zak Drake, Hannah Drake, Grayson Norton, Angel Drake, & Karmen Bowden; 3 brothers: Hugh Norton of Destin, FL, Jim Norton of Tampa, FL, & Jack Norton of Fort Walton, FL; 2 sisters, Gloria Dozier & Lenora Cape, both of Cordele; & 24 nieces & nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to mission work at either First Presbyterian Church, 125 S.
