Miss Ruby Alston, 83, passed away Monday morning, April 7, at Sumter County Retirement Village in Plains.Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 10, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. William Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery near Preston. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 PM on Thursday at Hancock Funeral Home.Born July 13, 1930 in the Centerpoint Community, she was a daughter of the late John Durward Alston, Sr. & Miriam Idell Holmes Alston. A graduate of Crawford Long College in Atlanta, she was a Registered Surgical Nurse for 14 years, and then was head nurse on the surgical floor at the former Americus Sumter County Hospital. Miss Alston was of the Baptist faith, and was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves.Survivors include her brothers & sisters: Lucy Alston Frazier, Gladys Ilean Alston Fuller, Lora Wayne Alston Cooper (Robert), John Durward "Buddy" Alston, Jr. (Nancy Jo), Mary Joan Alston Wilkerson, Charlie Anthony "Tony" Alston (Fran), & Michelle Alston; sister-in-law, Betty Alston; several nieces and nephews; nurses in the Americus area who were dear friends, many of whom she helped train, and her beloved little dog, Suzanna, who was her baby.She was preceded in death by two brothers: Roy Willard Alston & his wife Jo, and Robert Lee "Bobby" Alston; and by two brothers-in-law: Henry "Hank" Frazier and Ralph Fuller. Flowers are welcomed, and for those wishing to do so, memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of one's choice. To sign our online guestbook, please visit www.hancockfuneralhomeinc.comHancock Funeral Home, 427 S.
