Mrs. Elizabeth Catherine "Betty" Kennedy Weldon passed away June 16, 2014 at her home in Americus. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 21, at Central Baptist Church, with Pastor Benny Tate and Pastor Bryan Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Central Baptist Church on Saturday. Born July 1, 1926, Betty was the daughter of Thomas Edgar and Elizabeth Chapman Kennedy. She was a devoted Christian, wife, and loving mother. She served the Lord through her piano and organ playing for many years. She was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Griffin, and had been employed as a bookkeeper for her sons' business, M&D Masonry. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Tip Weldon, in 2002. She is survived by two daughters, June (Benny) Whittle of Americus and Maria (Oscar) Howell of Americus; five sons, Dr. Darrell (Connie) Weldon of Ringgold, GA, Bill (Diane) Weldon of Tallahassee, FL, Michael (Mickie) Weldon of Barnesville, GA, David Weldon of Stockbridge, GA, and Dr. Quint (Lisa) Weldon of Americus. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, four sisters, and a number of nieces and nephews.
