Mrs. Mary Louise Buchanan Lansford, 88, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, in the Martha McDonald Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Allan Purtill and Rev. John Brodess officiateing. Requested to serve as honorary pallbearers are Elegant Elders, members of the Session, Board of Deacons, and members of the Roy Studstill Sunday School class of the First Presbyterian Church. Due to the weather-related conditions at Oak Grove Cemetery, interment will be private, with no service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 on Wednesday, August 27, in the Section 3 Sun Porch at Magnolia Manor. Mrs. Lansford, a native of Sumter County, Georgia, was born October 8, 1919, a daughter of the late Loagan Carlyle Buchanan, Sr. and the late Mary Wood Buchanan. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elise Buchanan Duncan King, and two brothers, Logan Carlyle Buchanan, Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Anderson Wood Buchanan. Her husband, Walter Alex Lansford, preceded her in death on May 12, 19996, Mrs. Lansford was first a member of Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, Friendship, Georgia, and later transferred membership to the Fist Presbyterian Church in Americus. She was active in the Elegant Elders as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Lansford attended Sumter County schools at Concord, graduated from Anthony High School, earned a diploma from Georgia Southwestern College and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She held a lifetime teaching certificate. Mrs. Lansofrd retired after 34 years of teaching in Sumter County schools and Americus High School. She became a life member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association. Mrs. Lansford is survived by her sister, Miss Marjorie Buchanan of Americus; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Dottie Buchanan of Sylacauga, AL, Mrs. Martha Buchanan of Newnan, GA, and Mrs. Marjorie Wyatt of Tipp City, Ohio. A number of nieces and nephews also survive, including a special newphew, Bobby Dodson of Plains and his wife Barbara who were her beloved caregivers. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund, 125 S. Jackson St., Americus, GA 31709, or to the League of the Good Samaritan at Magnolia Manor, 2001 S.
