Mr. Bennett Lester Williams, Jr., 70, passed away early Sunday morning, August 3, at his home in Americus. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, August 5, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Rev. Thomas Teate officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at Hancock Funeral Home. Born February 1, 1944 in Americus, he was a son of the late Bennett Lester Williams, Sr. and Martha Boynton Williams. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a self-employed carpenter serving the housing industry. He attended Southern Technical College and Georgia Tech. Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Elizabeth Teate Williams; a son and daughter-in-law, Bennett Lester Williams, III and Tresa of Butler; grandchildren: Bennett Lester Williams, IV and Sara Kalyn Williams; step-grandchildren: Brandon Smith, Michael Smith (Heather), and Terry Wayne Gordon; a step-daughter, Suzi Benedict of Americus, and her son, C.J. Jenkins; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Laura and Douglas Cheek of Americus, Rev. Tom and Myra Teate of Dooly County, and Mary Jane Sangster of Americus; an aunt, Lila Odom of Lyons; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
