Mrs. Doris G. Evans, 85, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 6, at her home in Americus. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with Father Don Hutchens officiating. Interment services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 11, in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Pallbearers will include Rhys Evans, Jack Evans, Jr., John Temperley, William Minick, Jr., Jeff Gafford, and Robert Kohn. Mrs. Evans, born February 15, 1929, in Etta, Mississippi, was a daughter of the late Isrel Beard Gafford and Cora Mae Ware Gafford. She was an Episcopalian and a loving wife and mother. Survivors include her husband, John W. Evans, Sr., two sons and daughters-in-law, Rhys and Julia Evans of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jack and Jill Evans of Melbourne, Australia; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gerry and John Temperley of Elko, NV, and Tina Kohn of Winder, GA; a brother, Gene Gafford of Saltillo, MS; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
