Mr. Kermit Elliott, Jr., 79, passed away early Thursday morning, August 21, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Funeral services are planned for 12:30 PM on Tuesday, August 26, at DeSoto Baptist Church with Bro. Troy Fripp officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 2:00 PM on Tuesday in Andersonville National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 preceding the services on Tuesday at DeSoto Baptist Church, and at other times at the family residence, 315 Pineview Drive in Americus. Born April 17, 1935 in Lake County, TN, he was a son of the late Thelma Jewel Elliott. Mr. Elliott was retired as Sergeant First Class in the United States Army, and he was a bottling foreman for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. in Americus. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Elliott was a decorated serviceman in the United States Army for 21 years. During his service career, he was stationed in Germany and Korea. He completed one tour of duty in the Vietnam War where he served as an advisor and a tank commander, earning 3 Bronze Star Medals. Mr. Elliott, affectionately called "Kermit the Frog", loved fishing, hunting, a good joke, and spending time with his family - especially to share a good meal. He was a Boy Scout leader and an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Survivors include his wife, Harriet Virginia Roebuck Elliott of Americus; children: Mrs. Robert A. (Tina) Cook of Americus, Mrs. Wade (Lynn) Register of Ellaville, and Mr. Tony White & Linda of Americus; grandchildren: Mrs. Trey Morrison (Allison Cook), Miss Audra Cook, Mrs. Casey Smith (Charley Varnum), Mr. Cole E. Varnum, Miss Rebecca White, and Miss Erin White; and two great-grandchildren, Christian Gage Cook and Ava Jule Cook. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his son, Mr. Ricky Wayne Elliott.
