Ralph Gardner Rumph, Sr.

Mr. Ralph Gardner Rumph, Sr. passed away on Sunday morning, September 21, at Magnolia Manor. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 22, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Dr. Bryan Myers officiating. A private interment followed. The family received friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM on Monday at Hancock Funeral Home, and Mrs. Rumph will be with her son & daughter-in-law for a short time at 523 Divine Drive in Albany. Mr. Rumph was a native of Taylor County, GA and had spent most of his life in Americus. He was born October 26, 1926, a son of the late Jake C. Rumph and Minnie Lee Rumph. Mr. Rumph was the owner and operator of Rumph's Garage for thirty years. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the M.C. Gardner Sunday School Class. He was a Veteran of World War II, a member of the M.B. Council Lodge No. 13, F&AM, and the American Legion John B. Mathis Post No. 2. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Lois Cordell Rumph of Americus; son & daughter-in-law, Ralph G. Rumph, Jr. & Nancy of Albany; 3 grandsons: Tommy Rumph & Stephanie and Spencer Rumph of Albany, and Joey McIlwraith of Colorado; 2 step-great-grandsons: Bradyn and Grant Suber of Leesburg; one step-granddaughter, Tracy Suber & Britt of Leesburg; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Rumph of Albany; one great-grandson, Cohen Rumph of Albany; one step-great-granddaughter, Lily Suber of Leesburg; and several nieces & nephews. Mr. Rumph was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Carol Rumph McIlwraith; three brothers: Carl Rumph, Walter Rumph, and Clyde Rumph; and three sisters: Kate Mullins, Mary Willingham, and Virginia Brannan.
