Mr. Walter A. McLemore, Sr., 84, 802 Copperhill Circle, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 24, 2008, in Sumter Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with Rev. Hugh DeLoach and Rev. David McLemore officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Those who are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers include Julian Smith, Bill Clayton, Bobby Vann, Ulysses Sims, Jim Wilson, and Harold Eubanks. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. At other times, friends may call at 802 Copperhill Circle. Born February 18, 1924, in Polk County, FL, he was a son of the late David Hazzard McLemore, Sr. and Eva Lottie Williams McLemore. His first wife and mother of his children, Mrs. Reatha Juamita Beasley McLemore, preceded him in death in 1988. Mr. McLemore grew up in Sylvester, moved to Plains, and then to Americus where he spent most of his adult life. He was associated with L. W. Kirkland, his mentor and teacher for his life’s work as a building contractor. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and a former member of Cheek Memorial Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife, Mary Butler McLemore of Americus; daughters, Sonja Wright of Rochelle and Bonita Morton and her husband, Charles of Leesburg, GA; step-daughter Marie Warbington and her husband Randy of Ball Ground; son, Walter A. McLemore, Jr. and his wife Joan of Americus; step-son, Sammie Curry and his wife Evelyn of Americus; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Betty McLemore of Lovejoy, David and Dot McLemore of Plains, Horace and Joy Carter of Albany, James and Evelyn McLemore of Orlando, Fl; Louise McLemore of Cordele, and Betty McLemore of Albany; sisters and brother-in-law, Eva and Charles Horne of Warner Robins, Virginia Perry of Colorado Springs, CO, and Louvine Adams of Leesburg, GA; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
