Mrs. Louise Porter Witherspoon, 91, passed away on Monday, October 13, at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Aberdeen, Washington. Funeral services are planned for 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 22, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, with Rev. Betty Lou Miller officiating. A private family only interment will follow. The family will receive friends on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home. A daughter of the late Jones Porter and Lola Robinson Porter, she was born on January 26, 1923, in Savannah, Hardin County, Tennesee. After attending business college, she and Hollis LeRoy Witherspoon were married on December 7, 1945 in Phenix City, Alabama. Mr. Witherspoon was an engineer for Stone & Webster Engineering Corp. which required the family to move to job sites throughout the United States. During this time, Mrs. Witherspoon attended Methodist Churches where she shared her love of children by volunteering in the nurseries of the churches. After Mr. Witherspoon’s retirement, the couple located to Kennett, Missouri. They remained there for 10 years before moving to Americus, Georgia. They moved into their new home on their 50th wedding anniversary, December 7, 1995. Mr. Witherspoon was in poor health and died in April of 1996. Mrs. Witherspoon relocated to Ocean Shores, Washington in July of 2004. Mrs. Witherspoon is remembered for her love of family, being an excellent seamstress, cook and homemaker. She was gifted with a "green thumb" and was known for her ever-present smile. Surviving relatives include three daughters and their husbands, Eleanor and Gary D. Miller of Ocean Shores, Washington, Holly and Gary C. Keyes of West Harrison, Indiana and Carol and Michael R. Denham of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Mary Virginia Porter McHugh of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; a brother, William J. Porter of Lake Village, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Porter of Kennett, Missouri; five grandchildren, Carol Anne Ditmyer Smith (Todd), Tyler Richard Denham (Laurie), Aaron Hollis Keyes (Mary Jo), Andrew Martin Denham and Gavin LeRoy Miller; two great-grandchildren, Codey Ditmyer and Michael Declan Keyes, a special cousin, Kenneth Wayne Myer of Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Joe Porter.
