Mrs. Annie Julia Potter, 98, 107 Lorraine Avenue, passed away on Wednesday morning, October 8, 2008, at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home with interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Gossett will officiate. Pallbearers will include Jamie Crowe, Sport Crowe, Frankie Nobles, Phil VanAssche, John Albritton, Brandon Potter, and Joe Albritton. Honorary pallbearers will be Will Potter, Harold Potter, Danny McAlvin, Mitch McAlvin, Robbie Potter, Walter Potter, John Potter, Brian Potter, and Donald Potter. Born July 25, 1910, in Andersonville, Mrs. Potter was a daughter of the late Seaborn Franklin Kitchens and Annie Blount Kitchens. She was a member of Brooklyn Heights Baptist Church and was an employee of Southland Academy for several years. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10. At other times, friends may call at 107 Lorraine Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to United Hospice of Cordele, 708 East 16th Ave., Cordele, GA 31015. Survivors include six daughters and four sons-in-law, Annie Ruth and Bobby Ogletree of Albany, Sara Scarbrough of Americus, Mavis and Hulon Crowe of Americus, Barbara and Phil VanAssche of Warren, MI, Doris Ann Potter of Americus, and Martha and Bobby Castleberry of Americus; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William Taft Potter of Montezuma, and Walter Eugene and Beth Potter of Vienna; 36 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; and 25 great-great grandchildren. Her husband, Taft Potter, preceded her in death on August 22, 1982. Also preceding her in death were a grandson, Rev. Joe Ray Nobles on Oct. 26, 2001, a great grandson, Jason Ray Nobles, on Oct. 22, 2000, and three sons, Harold Potter, John Theron Potter, and Roger Potter.
