Alice L. Wingard, 96, died in Richland, WA on November 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Friday, December 5, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Rev. Rusty Mauldin and Rev. Keith Parks will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 PM. Alice lived with her son in Washington State for 12 years, followed by 2 years at Guardian Angel Homes in Richland, WA. Born in Richland, GA, Alice was the daughter of Ella and Charnoch George Lunsford. Her father died when she was a young child at which time the family moved to Americus. Most of her life was in Americus where she worked as a Southern Bell telephone operator for over 30 years. While in Americus, she was an active and long-time member of Americus First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Myra Lunsford of Americus and Aline Snyder of Ellaville, and by two brothers, Sammy Lunsford and James D. Lunsford, Sr. of Americus. She is survived by her son, Ray Pope, Jr. & his wife Martha of Richland, WA; two granddaughters, Jennifer Wilkerson & her husband Lee of Richland, WA and Melinda Pope of Alexandria, VA; two great-grandsons, Austin and Noah Wilkerson, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
