Mr. José Garcia, 72, passed away on Saturday afternoon, November 29, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A funeral mass is planned for Wednesday, December 3, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Francis Gillespie. S.J. officiating. Family members will serve as pallbearers. A rosary service with visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, December 2, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Born March 10, 1942 in Valle Hermoso Tamaulipas, Mexico, he was a son of the late Pascual Garcia and Maria Vega. A cattle farmer in Mexico in his younger days, Mr. Garcia was a row crop farmer in Sumter County. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Josefina Quicio de Garcia; a son, José Francisco Garcia; three daughters: Maria de los Angeles Garcia, Elsa Garcia, and Nidia Estela Garcia; three brothers: Reynaldo Garcia, Humberto Garcia, and Francisco Garcia; five sisters: Ofelia Garcia, Maria Reyes Garcia, Berka Garcia, Maria Guadalupe Garcia, and Maria Aurora Garcia; eleven grandchildren: Martin Antonio Rojas, Selina Gibson, Stephanie Rojas, Jesus Ivan Galvan, Juan Garcia, Moises Padron, Stacie Rojas, Valeria Padron, Ruby Garcia, Topacio Garcia, and Perla Padron; and several nieces and nephews.
