Mrs. Sarah Purvis Kelly, 69, 180 Howard Johnson Road, died on Thursday morning, November 6, 2008, at her residence. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, in Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. Earl Dunmon officiating. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. At other times, friends may call at 180 Howard Johnson Road. Born August 14, 1939, in Dooly County, Mrs. Kelly was a daughter of the late Warren T. and Ola Mae Brown Purvis. She was a very active member of the Christian Fellowship Church. She served as a bookkeeper for Wise Electric Company for more than 20 years and for Jones Automatic Sprinkler Company for several years. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Kelly Stroup and David, Linda Kelly Rix and Jay, all of Americus; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. “Chappy” Kelly, Jr. and Sherry of Americus; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha P. Hicks and Jerry of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Robert A. Kelly, III and Jessica of Cleveland, TN, Craig A. Kelly, Glen J. Kelly, James W. Stroup, Kelly L. Stroup, Jennifer L. Rix, Rebecca A. Rix, and Sarah E. Rix, all of Americus; two great grandchildren, Adam Kelly of Americus and Rebekah Kelly of Cleveland, TN; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert A. Kelly, Sr., a brother, Jimmie L. Purvis, and a sister, Louise P. Griner. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, is in charge of arrangements.
