Mrs. Edra Hutto Pope died Thursday, Nov 20, 2008 in Tifton, Ga. Memorial services will be held at Central Baptist Church in Americus at 2:30 P. M. Sunday, November 23. Family visitation will be held in the church beginning at 1:30 P.M. The Reverend Hugh DeLoach will officiate. Mrs. Pope was born in Abbeville, Henry County, Ala. on May 24, 1921. She was the daughter of Jonah Benjaman and Lula Pilcher Hutto of Schley County, Georgia. Mrs. Pope lived in Amercus, Georgia most of her adult life where she was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Pope Jr. and a grandchild Edward Lee Pope IV, along with her sister, Delora Hutto Dickey and brother, George Wynton Hutto. She is survived by a son Edward Lee Pope lll and wife Sally Cole Pope of Atlanta; a daughter, Tallulah Pope Rogers and husband Ray Rogers of Tifton; two grandchildren, Dr. Ford Rogers, M.D. of Charleston, South Carolina and Laura Rogers Tomberlin and husband Dr. Jeff Tomberlin, Ph.d, of College Station, Texas, along with their two children, Celeste and Jonah Tomberlin. She is also survived by a brother, Basil Hutto, of Columbus, Ga.; sisters, Linah Campbell, and Betty Phillips of Columbus Ga. and Deanie Wells of Buena Vista, Ga. along with many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pope will be remembered as an avid reader and collector of books and quilts, an accomplished indoor gardener and homemaker. Above all else, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who shared love and kindness with all she knew.
