Charles Wesley Cherry

February 4, 1947 — January 17, 2015

Charles "Charlie" Wesley Cherry, born February 4, 1947, went peacefully to his eternal home on January 17, 2015, in Bossier City, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John V. Cherry and Juanita B. Clark Cherry. Charlie is survived by brothers, John "Clark" Cherry (MaryNell) of Americus, and William "Hal" Cherry (Lynette) of Haughton, LA; nieces, Angela Dailey (John), Cynthia Faircloth (Shannon), Mandy Cromer (Hal), Blake Bailey (David); nephew, Wesley Cherry; great-nieces, Meaghan Dailey, Mary Katherine Cromer, Mia Bailey; great-nephews, Justin Dailey, Zac Faircloth, Dylan Cromer, and Evan, Jackson, and Asher Bailey. Because of health issues, Charlie moved to Louisiana in 2013 so his brother, Hal, could look after him. There are many people in Americus to thank who looked after Charlie's needs over the years. There were neighbors who took him to buy groceries and to doctor appointments. Many members of Central Baptist Church dropped by to check on his well being and came by to pick him up for church on Sundays. After moving to Louisiana, he was lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff at the Arbor/Terrace of Bossier City, LA, during the time he resided there. Charlie's last two weeks of earthly life were spent being cared for a by a superb medical staff on the third floor of Willis-Knighton Hospital in Bossier City and, in his last days, by an equally loving and concerned group of physicians and staff in the SICU. "Uncle Charlie's" memory may have been failing him during the last couple of years, but one thing he never forgot, was that he wasn't in Georgia, and he never quit asking when he was going to go home to Georgia. Now he's home and he's at peace. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Central Baptist Church. Funeral services, officiated by Charlie's long time pastor, Rev. Hugh DeLoach, will follow at 11:00 AM. Members of the Melvin York Sunday School class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Charlie's name to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011; or to Central Baptist Church, 190 Upper River Road, Americus, GA 31709.
