Mrs. Ana Maria Rangel, 75, passed away on Sunday evening, January 25, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center. A funeral mass is planned for 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Francis Gillespie, S.J. will officiate. Burial will follow at a date and time to be announced later in Tamaulipas, Matamoros, Mexico. Update: Mrs. Rangel has been interred in cementerio el Rosario in her home town in Mexico. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 27, between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 PM, with a Rosary service at 7:00 PM, and again on Wednesday evening, January 28, between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 PM, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St. Born April 17, 1939 in Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico, she was a daughter of the late Froylan Rangel Sias and Carmen Castillo Mata. Mrs. Rangel was a home maker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include her children: Juan Jesus Lara-Rangel of Tamaulipas, Matamoros, Mexico, Ana Maria Lara-Rangel of Tamaulipas, Matamoros, Mexico, Juan Antonio Lara-Rangel of Americus, and Martin Lara-Rangel of Americus; and grandchildren: Marilu Pesina, Martin Lara, Johnny Lara, Valeria Lara Villela, Ana Magdalena Lara Villela, and Juan Jesus Lara Villela. She was preceded in death in 2012 by a daughter, Marilu Lara.
