W. P. "Phil" Daniel

Mr. W. P. “Phil” Daniel, 70, of Plains, died unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, December 9, at Sumter Regional Hospital, East. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, in Maranatha Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Summers and Dr. Dan Ariail officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Born August 2, 1938, in Dawson, Mr. Daniel was a son of the late Arch Carl and Estelle Phillips Daniel. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was later a production manager in the mobile home industry. He was a member of the Plains Lions Club and was an active member of Maranatha Baptist Church and the Sunday School and Brotherhood of the church. He enjoyed cooking and sharing his cooked foods with friends and family. The family will receive friends at the Plains Bed and Breakfast, 100 West Church Street, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10. In lieu of flowers, family members suggest that memorial contributions be made to any favorite charity. Survivors include his wife, Laura Daniel of Plains; daughters Merry Leigh Singley and her husband Robert of Americus, and Lisa Futch of Adel; sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Stacie Daniel, Phillip and Lisa Daniel, all of Americus, Jeffrey and Jessica Newsom of Blaine, Minnesoto, and Eric and Jennifer Newsom of Westfield, Ohio; a brother, Terry Daniel and wife Brenda of Valdosta; grand-children, Michelle Underwood, Matt Grinolds, William Tatum, Alison Daniel, Brittany Daniel, Scott Daniel and his wife, Misty, Tyler Daniel, Brandon Futch, Brian Futch, Lauren Futch, Erica Newsom, Levi Newsom, Summer Newsom, and Kanon Newsom; 4 great grandchildren, Madison Daniel, Sarah Underwood, Miranda Underwood, and Kendal Underwood; aunts, Nellie Jennings and Lorice Hammond, both of Plains, and Marie Griffin of Americus; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Millie Jennings of Plains. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
