John Winthrop Evans

Mr. John W. Evans, Sr., age 87, passed away on Friday morning, April 10, 2015, at his home in Americus. Funeral services, with military honors, are planned for 11:30 AM on Tuesday, April 14, from the committal pavilion at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, with Rev. Judith L. Kalom officiating. Mr. Evans, born April 23, 1927 in Utica, NY, was a son of the late Alfred Evans and Mary Carpenter Evans. He was of the Episcopal faith and was a retired HVAC design engineer for the pulpwood and cotton industries. Mr. Evans was preceded in death on August 6, 2014 by his wife of 61 years, Doris Gafford Evans. Survivors include two sons: Rhys Evans (Julie) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jack Evans (Jill) of Melbourne, Australia; two daughters: Gerry Temperley (John) of Americus and Tina Evans of Winder, GA; a brother, David Alfred Evans (Margie) of Americus; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
