Mr. Charles Grady Henderson, affectionately known as "Pop Pop", age 85, passed away on Friday evening, May 8, 2015, at Perfect Care. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, May 12, at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church. Rev. Keith Parks and Rev. Rusty Mauldin will officiate, with Mrs. Judy Parks and Dr. Ray Duke providing musical accompaniment. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers: Tracy Law, Emory Parker, Stephen Pinnell, John Morgan, Chad Brown, and Ricky Burgess. Members of the Charlie Gibbs Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, members of the Men's Bible Class at First Baptist Church, and members of the Americus Kiwanis Club are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:30-3:45 on Tuesday in the Chapel at First Baptist Church, and at other times, at the home of Leila Henderson Toms, 148 Sylvan Place in Americus. Born at home on Barlow Street on March 11, 1930, he was a son of the late H.K. "Hop" Henderson and Iris Boyer Henderson. Mr. Henderson was an educator, having taught at Americus High School from 1957-1967, serving as a science consultant for RESA from 1967-1987, and teaching at Southland Academy from 1987-1995. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, and a Sunday School teacher from 1957-2006. Mr. Henderson was a United States military veteran, having served in the Air Force from 1951-1955, and was a member of the Americus Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by two wives, Yvonne Weathersby Henderson and Iona Graham Bell Henderson; a daughter, Iris Elizabeth Yvonne "Yve" Henderson; and a brother, H.K. "Hugh" Henderson, Jr. Survivors include two daughters: Hope Elizabeth Henderson of Americus and Leila Marie Henderson Toms (Paul) of Americus; one son, Harold Eugene "Gene" Henderson of Snead's Ferry, NC; two grandsons: William Douglas "Will" Toms and Charles Edward "Chet" Toms, both of Americus; and an extended family, friends, and many beloved students.
