Mrs. Lorene Stephens, age 86, passed away on Thursday morning, May 21, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Funeral services are planned for 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 24, from the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with Pastor Timothy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on Saturday evening, May 23, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM at Hancock Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Patricia Scott, 859 McMath Mill Road. Born July 7, 1928 in Lee County, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late John Richard Grant and Mary Frances Jones Grant. Mrs. Stephens was retired as a waitress and was a foster parent for many years. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Scott (Frankie) of Americus; four sons: Jerry Stephens (Shelby) of Montezuma, Tim Stephens (Pam) of Oglethorpe, Kenneth Stephens (Linda) of Americus, and David Stephens of Hephzibah; two sisters: Mattie Fulcher (Clarence J.) of Stockbridge, and Louella Strickland of Sylacouga, Alabama; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Alfred Ball of Americus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy O. B. Stephens, two daughters: Teresa Stephens and Cheryl Horton, and by one infant son and one infant daughter.
