Linda Jordan James

Mrs. Linda Jordan James, 98, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 27, 2009, in Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, in Oak Grove Cemetery with Rev. John Brodess officiating. Born February 20, 1910, in Schley County, Mrs. James was a daughter of the late Ceola Cephus Jordan and Lilla Lenora Stewart Jordan. She was a loving wife, mother, and grand-mother, a former member of the Cherokee Garden Club and an honorary member of the Junior Service League. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Americus since January 14, 1934, she was active in all church activities as long as her health permitted. Family members suggest that memorial contributions might be made to the League of the Good Samaritan, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709, or to any favorite charity. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol J. and Wade Halstead of Americus, and Cheryl J. and Lewie Gayton of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren Heather and Craig Rhodes of Albany, Cindy and Niclas Andersson of Ekero, Sweden, Leigh and Tom Mayrhofer of Washington, D.C.; great grandchildren Casey Rhodes and Ashley Rhodes, both of Albany, Riley Andersson and Estelle Andersson, both of Ekero, Sweden, Brandon Mayrhofer and Leyton Mayrhofer, both of Washington, D.C.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Betty Anderson, Charlene Roby, and Neil Bowen, all of Americus. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Woodrow James, on October 31, 1984, and by her grandson, Jim Halstead, on January 30, 1994. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, is in charge of the arrangements.
