James M. "Matt" Sullivan

Funeral service for James Madison "Matt" Sullivan will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Americus, Georgia. Following the service a private burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Matt passed away on June 26th at his home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Matt was born on October 29, 1934 in Ellaville, Georgia to Raymond Eugene and Cleone Collins Sullivan. He attended Millersburg Military Academy in Millersburg, Kentucky and upon his graduation enrolled at Auburn University where he completed his education obtaining a Bachelors of Business Administration. He then served in the U.S. Army. He later enjoyed successful careers in the textile and timber businesses. Matt married Jane Vance Thomas and in March 2015 they celebrated 59 years as husband and wife. Matt is survived by two sons James Blake Sullivan of Macon, Georgia and his wife Isabelle Heard Sullivan and their two children Morgan and Carl and son John Vance Sullivan of Atlanta, Georgia and his wife Cheryl Sullivan and their two children Laura and Hayden. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Ann Flake of Huntsville, Alabama. Matt was predeceased by his only brother Raymond Collins Sullivan. Matt was an active member of First United Methodist Church and served on many local boards in various capacities. Memorials may be made to: Sheffield / Wooten Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church of Americus, 200 S Lee Street, 31709 for the benefit of the local homeless shelter or the mission fund; League of the Good Samaritan at Magnolia Manor, 2001 S Lee Street, 31709 or the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, P.O. Box 6111, Americus, GA 31709. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements for Mr. James Madison "Matt" Sullivan.
