Mr. Clifford Elmore Pilcher, Jr., age 89, passed away on Sunday morning, July 26, 2015, at his home in Americus. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 28, at First Baptist Church of Americus, with Rev. Keith Parks, Rev. Bill Dupree, and Rev. Rusty Mauldin officiating. Burial, with military honors, is to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers: Billy Pilcher, David McLemore, David Burgamy, Charles Burgamy, Darius Denton, and Kent Denton. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are members of the Fellowship Bible Class, members of the Retired Men's Club, and members of the American Legion Post 2. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, July 27, between the hours of 6:00 & 8:00 PM, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., and at other times at the family residence, 202 Patton Drive. A native of Sumter County, Mr. Pilcher was born August 11, 1925, a son of the late Clifford Elmore Pilcher, Sr. and Susie Law Pilcher. He attended Georgia Southwestern Junior College and graduated in 1948 from the University of Georgia with a B.A. Degree in Business Administration. He worked from his home as an Accountant for most of his life. He served in the United States Marine Corps aboard the USS Washington during World War II. He served as Past Commander of the American Legion Post 2. Mr. Pilcher was a member of First Baptist Church of Americus, where he actively served in various positions, including Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, and he participated in Brotherhood and Senior Adults. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church Epworth Sunday School Class. He enjoyed picnics at his farm at Myrtle Springs, family beach trips, breakfast and coffee with the "retired men's club", turkey hunting, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Norma Wall Pilcher; a son, Clifford E. Pilcher, III (Laurie); a daughter, Ellen Pilcher Abell (Hamer); stepsons: J.R. Wall (Debbie) and Scott Wall (Merritt); grandchildren: Mallory & Megan Pilcher and Emily, Caleb and Jacob Abell; step-grandsons: Tripp Wall (Meagen) and Hunter Wall; step-great-grandson, Brantley John Wall; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Edwards Pilcher; brothers: Jack Lassiter, Jimmy Lassiter, Bill Pilcher, and Buddy Pilcher; sister, Helen L. Foster; and grandson, Alex Pilcher.
