Alice Mccarty Holloway

Mrs. Alice McCarty Holloway, 95, passed away on Sunday afternoon, February 8, 2009, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. She was a long time resident of the Shiloh Community of Sumter County. Graveside services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Brother Troy Fripp officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Ann Partain. Two songs were sung by the Wesley Chapel Singers and friends from FL and AL, directed by her son, Dr. Clinton Holloway. They were accompanied by Mrs. Jacque Walters of Cordele. Mrs. Holloway was the youngest child of Edward McCarty and Willie Brooks McCarty, born May 31, 1913 in Macon County near Ideal, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, B.E. Holloway, four sisters, five brothers, four nieces, and eight nephews. Her hobbies were singing, sewing, especially quilting, and her flowers. She retired from Manhattan Shirt Company. The family received friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9. The family requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Mattie Marshall Center at Magnolia Manor, 2001 South Lee Street, Americus, GA 31709, or to a charity of one's choice. Survivors include: four sons, E. Alfred Holloway of Wichita Falls, TX; Thomas E. Holloway and Donald B. Holloway of Americus; and Clinton M. Holloway of Plains; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 10 nieces and 14 nephews. Mrs. Alice is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Edna K. McCarty Bobo of Cordele; and five adopted grandchildren. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, GA, was in charge of the arrangements.
